The Philips Zinc Chloride 9V is the economical choice for the low-drain devices that take a PP3 block: wall and carriage clocks, basic ionisation smoke alarms, multimeters and test meters, guitar pedals and radio microphones used occasionally, and toys. Supplied singly on a blister card so you buy only what you need. Zinc chloride gives more usable energy and better leak resistance than a standard zinc carbon cell, and Philips guarantees at least 80% of the original energy within the best-before date, up to three years from manufacture.

Important: zinc chloride batteries have a lower capacity than alkaline. For smoke alarms, follow the alarm manufacturer's battery recommendation — many specify alkaline or lithium — and for radio microphones, effects pedals and other equipment used daily choose an alkaline 9V.
